Transfers and Special Situations

Students with Unique Needs

Today, many students have a wide array of interests and/or challenges that can make the college process and college years a little more involved and potentially daunting. We’re here to help. Here’s a snapshot of how we work with some specific groups.
  • Transfer Students

Transfer students have different needs than freshman students.  They have a unique perspective that comes from having been in college already, so they are better able to understand what they want in their transfer institution.  In addition, the admissions process is not exactly the same for transfers.  From the timeline for required documentation to the deadlines to essays, it is not one size fits all. That's where Coach Deb can help.

With an extensive background in transfer admissions, both in her role as the Transfer Admissions Advisor for the Kaplan Leadership Program, as well as working with numerous other students every year who hope to transfer, Coach Deb can help effectively navigate the transfer process and ensure students end up at the best school for their academic, social, and personal goals.

  • Learning Differences, ASD, and Mental Health Issues

At Personal Best College Coaching, our team has extensive experience helping students with learning differences, those with Asperger’s or elsewhere on the autism spectrum, and students with anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Our goal is to find schools that will provide the support students need to thrive - from basic services to comprehensive programs. Once we identify those schools, we work with each student to teach them how to be proactive and self-advocate on their campuses to ensure their success.

  • Music/Arts/Performing Arts

Each year we work with students who plan to major in the visual and performing arts. We develop a personalized plan for them based on their goals and the type of college they wish to attend (e.g. a college with an art/performing arts major vs. a conservatory or specialized art school). We help students develop a plan and timeline for additional requirements (pre-screenings, auditions, portfolios submission, and portfolio review days) and explain how these additional requirements are evaluated by the various institutions.

  • Student-Athletes

Our goal is to effectively advise student athletes through the college application process. We will cover, step-by-step, the recruiting process and create an appropriate timeline with each student. We want student-athletes to find the right academic, athletic, cultural and financial fit in a college!

Here are some of the topics that we will cover:

    • NCAA recruitment timeline
    • NCAA Eligibility Center
    • Recruiting videos
    • Correspondence with college coaches
    • Recruitment rules
    • Official and unofficial visits
    • Potential for scholarships
